FACEBOOK

          Probably every internet user (except my Dad.) knows about facebook. Well, for the record, Facebook is a global social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes while he was a student at Harvard University. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region. In my opinion, -apart from yahoo and google and maybe youtube- facebook is the most frequented website.

All that is history, right? Yeah, so, people join facebook for different reasons. I joined because of a single person. Your guess is right. It was a girl. lol. But I discovered facebook is worth more than that. I joined because of girl, lotsa people joined for lotsa reasons.



Omotayo from Washington says “. I joined Facebook because many of my friends were there and because I thought it would be much easier to communicate with my friends around the world”



Peggy Swails from University of Iowa gave her own reason for joining; “I joined Facebook in 2006 when I was attending Graduate School and earning a Master's Degree. My cohort of students (who were mostly younger than me by quite a few years) introduced me to FB”



Well those are their reasons. Reasons more honorable than mine you might say. Okay, so your friend tells you to check out this site, you do that and you get hooked. This aint coke but it’s almost as addictive. What got me hooked? Well I discovered I could meet a lot of old friends. Sometimes I’ll find somebody and I’ll shout “What? I didn’t know this guy still existed” or “So I’ll meet this girl again!” Most people got hooked for this same reason. Again I asked a few guys what they think is responsible for the kind of patronage facebook enjoys.



Peggy says “In my opinion, FB is very easy to navigate compared with "myspace", for example. That is the only other social networking site I have experienced. FB is very user friendly, which could be why individuals-both young and old-utilize FB.”





“Omotayo is more experienced than Peggy. “. I think there are a lot of people on Facebook for the same reasons as me, and because, I personally believe that Facebook is way more popular than such sites as Hi5. It's also much more user friendly, and more interactive, in my opinion (coming from someone who had up to eight or maybe more socializing website accounts at a point in time).”



Adrian Dalzell looks at it from a different perspective. “Marketing strategy, branding is good and its user friendly (some times)”



Marketing strategy? Wow, well that’s what he thinks. Bottom line is, facebook is interesting. Interesting, but can also be time wasting. Just check out what some people do on facebook- I might not be guiltless here- it’s absolutely wasting of time. Mafia wars for example, if you play it, you understand. Another good thing about facebook is, you know some things about people you might not have known without facebook, sometimes disappointing things, other times nice things.

        You might be wondering , what on earth is Joshua up to? Well, i am up to some good, (for a change). This blog; Peep Now, is just a place where I write my thoughts- well, outside facebook- where you can comment, vote and insult me all you want and get away with it. lol. Seriously, its just a place where I can discuss issues with guys like you and maybe make a difference.
         How it works; You just read the posts, leave your comments and participate in any  available poll. That's about everything you do. More things will come in with time. I'll appreciate if you leave comments. Anything; criticisms, advices, anything really. Right now, everything you say is welcome. Don't push your luck though. lol.
